Additives and Contaminants
Additives has been shown to enhance the performance of industrial fluids such as paints, emulsions, lubricants and polishing slurries. On the other hand, contamination through debris or external agents is responsible for deterioration in performance and in some extreme cases, catastrophic failure of devices. In either case, it is important to study the effect of presence of an external phase together with a base fluid.
The PFTL currently performs experiments and modeling in order to study multi-phase flows in a wide variety of configurations. The goal is to elucidate the governing particle –fluid interactions responsible for a augmented or attenuated performance.
